SOLVENT FOR SYNTHESIS, THE ADVANTAGES OF OUR ACETALS
Synthesis
Acetals are useful tools in organic synthesis: they are used as reagents or solvents, but also in purification processes like extraction, chromatography, crystallisation.
Examples of useful reactions where acetals are reagents: chloromethylation, source of formaldehyde.
Acetals are solvents in the following types of reactions: organolithium reactions, Grignard reactions, reactions with hydrides, Reformatzki reactions, Suzuki couplings, epoxidations, reductions, halide exchanges, just to name a few of them.
Elcoform ( a solution of formaldehyde in methanol with a low content of water ) is a methoxymethylation reagent.
An extensive scope of the acetals uses in organic synthesis is available on request.
